In reality service provision in mental health varies greatly throughout the country and there is often a lack of appropriate resources and facilities. In some areas, services can fall well below the minimum required for true quality care.
In the Getting Help section of Recover.ie, we outline the minimum level of service that should be provided in any sector, as laid down by the Department of Health in a document entitled "Guidelines on Good Practice and Quality Assurance in Mental Health Services".
Any service not meeting the criteria outlined by the Department of Health is below quality and not acceptable and the service user has a legitimate right to complain. We have outlined the complaints procedure that should be used in the Getting Help "Practical Guide to Complaints". Alternatively you can contact Shine to outline your concerns. It is only through creating awareness of the shortfalls in service provision that progressive change can occur.
