Living independently should not mean living without support. Everybody gets support in one way or another. It is your right to be supported too, for your basic needs and to assist you to live as part of the community. Unfortunately, this support isn’t always easy to find. You may need support to get the support! You may need to sharpen your communication skills. It can take time and patience to find out exactly what help is available in your area.

Phrenz groups

Phrenz groups are a nationwide mutual self-help network which aims to empower people with schizophrenia and related illnesses. Activities include weekly meetings, outings, talk and linking in with other activities of Shine. Please contact your regional office to find out details on the Phrenz group closest to you.

The Basin Club

The Basin Club is a peer-driven service located at No. 39 Blessington Street, Dublin 7. The club, supported by the NAHB, provides social, vocational and recreational support for people affected by mental illness, as well as being a first point of contact for people living in the Dublin area and a source of information on a range of relevant topics.

 

There is an open meeting every Wednesday at which new members and those wanting to find out more are very welcome.  The Wednesday meeting is used to get to know each other, share ideas, give and get feedback on developments and activities, and make decisions.  Developments include guest speakers, a Monday afternoon discussion and support group focusing on mental health and staying well, and a Friday afternoon social club. Creative writing and art workshops are up and running since February.
