After Diagnosis Printable Version

The sense of self, of who you are and your place in the world, is often damaged after an episode of mental illness. Building up the self is one of the most important things you can do to recover a balanced life. This process can be a long and difficult journey but it is most definitely achievable. What we have done here is provide you with some of the basics to get you started on this journey. After reading this section, you should take some time to read hrough the rest of this handbook at your own pace. In it you will find out more about schizophrenia and the treatment options available to you. It’s important that you get to know what sort of treatments and therapies are available so that you can maximise your chances of finding the one that works best for you. In the rest of this section, we’ll talk about some of the ways you can cope with symptoms and how you can approach your health in a holistic way.

REMEMBER: It is so important to talk about your experiences of schizophrenia with someone you trust and who understands your situation. By doing this, you’ll know that when times are difficult they can give you the support, advice and understanding you need.
